This thread is for discussing the 2014 May Firmware.

We have rolled back to recommending April's firmware in the first instance. Please see the current Firmware Upgrade Instructions for iMX6 devices thread for links etc

I have installed the newest firmware and it works great! It doesn't have the windows style launcher anymore. Is that something I did, or is it just not there anymore? Thanks

I'm not sure, I personally prefer either the Defualt one or the very similar Go launcher. There are normally a choice of two launchers with DroidBOX firmwares, the Android default, and a Metro style, Panel based or faux-3D one (depending on the model and firmware revision. I think the May 2014 X7 firmware has a panel based launcher alternative.

If you want to double check, bring up Settings>Apps>Scroll to the right so you can see the heading ALL>Scroll down until you can click on launcher>Click the Clear Defaults button.

Now when you next press the home button on your remote control, you'll be presented with a choice of DroidBOX Launcher or Launcher I think. Select the first once, and make sure you (for now) click the Just Once button underneath it. This way you can check what the other launcher looks like, without committing to it. Once you're happy which you want to use, select the Always button instead of Just Once.

This process (clearing defaults/Just Once vs Always) applies to all Android applications, when you have more than one that is capable of fulfilling the request you've just made (be it opening a video, bringing up the launcher homescreen or opening a URL).

So you're using a USB device. Is it formatted FAT/FAT32?

Exactly which files are on the USB device?
DBX_1.1.5_220514.zip
or
factory_update_param.aml , DBX_1.1.5_220514_preinstall.zip and recovery.img ?

When you tried the Android app, and the reset switch in the AV port methods, which files were on the USB device then? I'll try to recreate your set up and see what the problem could be.

Sorry, I thought I'd replied to this yesterday!
Can you try the procedure again, but use this file instead: DBX_18042014_OTA_.zip
When you get a moment, please let us know how it goes.
If it doesn't help, please send us an e-mail ( [email protected] ) with your original order ID, your eBay/Amazon user name and a link to your post ( https://droidboxforums.com/posts/209 ) so we don't ask you to go through the same steps again.

Ah, thanks for the update re it saying AC8350 but not on a label, duly noted. Re wrong forum, np, it wasn't meant as finger wag, just to let you know in case you came across info for the wrong model and got confused in the future.

Let me double check that date, I'll need to flash my X7 to the same firmware. In general, with firmwares from the last eight months or so, all apps should automatically re-install.
