Hi guys I recently bought a Xiaomi Mi box. Love the true Android TV OS. I tried setting up the preinstalled daydream (screensaver) Backdrop but it doesn't work not sure why then I installed the Areal dream screensaver and its awesome HD looks amazing but my internet isnt quite good enough to support it it stutters every 10 seconds or so plus its a waste of bandwith. So I got to thinking why not turn my 50 inch HD tv into a 100 gallon fishtank. I found a few screensavers in the playstore but they are cartoonish looking even the supposedly HD ones. Then I found a website that sells 4k and full HD mp4 files 20 min videos for like 7 bucks. I tried the the video screensaver app in the playstore and although it does work. It doesn't recognize Kodi and starts the screensaver 5 minutes into watching a show. Kodi is my primary source for using my android tv box so this wont work surely I'm not the only one who has wanted to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

If you would want to do video screen saver together with Kodi you would have to set up Kodi background transparent in order to see their menu and background however i am not sure if something like this is possible.Lets say that you do want to use Kodi you would use it to play other videos and not to watch video in the background from the home screen. It just does not have practical function.
If you do not use Kodi in android ,simply close the following and and go back go homescreen to video screensaver.Lets say that you do use OpenELEC/LibreELEC,simply play the video itself and set it to repeat, once you do want to use the box, simply close the video and play something other instead. You could use the same from android.

I'M not sure I'm following you sorry just to clarify I'm not trying to utilize the fishtank video screensaver within kodi I have custom backgrounds set up with the Aeon nox skin in Kodi. I just want it to kick on after say 5 minutes of inactivity on my android box my problem is that it kicks on when kodi is playing video so its not recognizing kodi as activity. sorry if you could elaborate you instructions perhaps dumb them down a little for me.

Hi

Its just not practical to do so.For example lets say that you stared with movie and did left from your box, your box still loads the buffering,CPU/GPU still needs to render the video itself and another video playing in the meantime could cause higher performance for no reason.

Now lets say that you had closed the video, simply play the video that you had intention to run as a background,or go back to homesceen if you did set up video screensaver widget.

I guess I see your point. I'm not one to start a video and walk away from it tho normally watch it straight through. I guess Ill look into kodi see if I can find an addon that will accomplish what I'm trying to do and possibly use kodi as my default app launcher although that's not my first choice. thanks for the input.
