I have a DroidBox T8-S which is using Android 4.4.2 (Kernel Version 3.10.33).
On top of this I use DBMC 16.2-1.

Is there any supported way that I can upgrade my box to Android 5, so that I can install Kodi 17 ?

I will be very disappointed if not, as I deliberately purchased a top-end box from a well respected name, precisely to avoid this kind of problem.

Hi

On the T8-S model currently there are 2 ways to obtain Kodi v17.

One is through modded Kodi v17 that can run on android 4 devices
https://droidboxforums.com/threads/kodi-17-on-android-4-4-devices.9707/

Second one is through non official BETA OpenELEC/LibreELEC update(NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR T8-S model).

Regards and have a nice day ;)

I'm eagerly awaiting the above beta to be made official, to get KODI 17 on my T8-s.
Would you provide a status update on this please?

Clicking on the link above I see it's gone to v8.0.2. But, clicking on the link
In that thread, I get the message that I don't have permission to view the page

Is there a way to just install LibreElec +Kodi 17 (without Android) on my T8-S please?
I don't need/use Android, as I only ever boot into OpenElec.

At the moment us T8-S customers are stuck at Kodi 15.2.
It seems there have been some significant improvements to Kodi since Isengard.

Thanks.

Hi

It is not possible to load OpenELEC/LibreELEC other than our firmware.Other firmware from non DroidBOX source can break the device.

Regarding updating Kodi on Android to latest non official release please re read above few posts as i explained and posted the links for latest non official releases.

Regards

Thanks for your replies.

But as I explained, I don't use Android. Therefore the above solutions are useless to me.

I understand you have good reasons for abandoning the Android/Kodi 17 update for this device,
but I'm sure it would go a long way with the many T8-S owners out there, if you were to implement
a LibreElec/Kodi 17 update. You only need to look at the number of views for this and other threads to gauge the interest in this development.

Can this still not be used?
https://www.droidboxforums.com/threads/beta-libreelec-sd-card-flash-test.8066/

Looking through the bug report thread, linked off this, I don't see any catastrophic reports. In fact Sean99 seemed to be using happily. Maybe He'll see this and be able to advise...

Otherwise, please consider evaluating the viability of completing this work for us.

Many thanks.
