LibreELEC 8.2.5 Kodi 17.6 Final for T8 Mini

Upon more testing, I found minor glitches in Android pertaining to my external desktop hard disk that is attached to the T8 Mini. It is a WD Elements 5 TB formatted as ext4 (Linux). Both my installed file managers (File Manager HD and X-plore) ask for access to the disk (and whether that app...

LibreELEC 8.2.5 Kodi 17.6 Final for T8 Mini

Finally came around to update and test--also did a factory reset. This update has solved an issue in LibreELEC for me in which the WiFi would sometimes not properly start when booting the box. Still soft-reboots occasionally when playing very large image folders as a slideshow from a WebDAV...

BETA. NOT (yet) OFFICIAL. LibreELEC 8.2.0 Kodi 17.5 Beta for T8 Mini

I am very satisfied with the T8 Mini and the current beta firmware. Maybe we can even get a last update to the final Kodi "Krypton" release aka 17.6?

BETA. NOT (yet) OFFICIAL. LibreELEC 8.2.0 Kodi 17.5 Beta for T8 Mini

Thanks a lot! Finally the postprocessing toggle is present for unaccelerated video formats in the playback window's video settings, and it seems to be enabled by default. Low bitrate WebM/VP8 Youtube rips look nicer now without blocking artifacts. On the downside, while only a minor visual...

BETA. NOT (yet) OFFICIAL. LibreELEC 8.0.2 Kodi 17.3 Test T8 Mini

Just a small specific glitch I've seen on every Open-/LibreELEC build so far – in the Nyancat screensaver from Kodi's addon repository, the animated background doesn't render. The Shadertoy visualization used to be broken as well in many LE7 builds but not in LE8 anymore. Looks like a driver...

BETA. NOT (yet) OFFICIAL. LibreELEC 8.0.2 Kodi 17.3 Test T8 Mini

It seems this build has fixed performance problems from the previous LE8 build for me, where the audio pitch would go up and down with frequent frame skipping in some videos. Still missing the video postprocessing option though; it is not available with amcodec acceleration enabled.

BETA. NOT OFFICIAL. LibreELEC 8.0.1 Kodi 17.1 Test T8 Mini

I see I had enabled acceleration of MPEG4 for all resolutions, not just the default 720p and up. Going back to the default helped a bit with the image quality in low-bitrate videos. Disabling acceleration (amcodec) altogether indeed made the postprocessing option available but of course HD...

How Often Should Box Be Switched off?

I also have the box switched off when not needed to save a few watts of power. It would of course be another story if I had some form of server running on it (e.g. to share the harddisk plugged into the USB).

BETA. NOT OFFICIAL. LibreELEC 8.0.1 Kodi 17.1 Test T8 Mini

I haven't updated to this build yet because of the report of a boot loop. One question: Is video postprocessing supported? On the older 7.0.3 build I don't seem to have that option in either the playscreen or in Kodi's acceleration settings, and some SD videos exhibit quite bad blocking and...

    Clearing Memory?

Yes, Android is designed with fully automatic memory management in mind and does a good job at it. Even if you "exit" an app via the back button (as opposed to the home button or last used apps switcher), it may stay resident in memory for quite a while. This has the advantage for the OS to be...

Android 6 Already On Your T8 Mini? OTA Not Allowing Subsequent Updates?

Ok, finally got around to tinker with the T8 Mini again and update to Android 6. I followed the instructions in the original post, did a factory reset too and after that got another OTA update. So far I haven't tested LibreELEC, only Android. Very nice: My ext4 (Linux) formatted USB harddisk...

T8 Mini Formal Android 6 BETA TEST

Yes I had very good experiences with Marshmallow on other devices, it seems a bit more faster/reactive too, that's why I'm interested. I watch a lot of anime though and have to rely on my fat (ext4 formatted) 5 TB harddisk for that, because anime streaming services here in Germany suck. I'm...

T8 Mini Formal Android 6 BETA TEST

I'm a tinkerer by heart. But you are right, better refraining until one can be sure that such a setup would be supported.

T8 Mini Formal Android 6 BETA TEST

Ok – confirming I have a T8 Mini and understanding that beta firmware can be unstable, unreliable, lack functionality, lead to data loss, you should have backups of data at all times etc. However I will only be able to participate (or even upgrade) if I can be sure that the Android 6 firmware...

January 2017 OTA Update For T8 Mini

Upgraded nicely for me without the need for a factory reset. Hoping for native OTG support for Linux filesystems in a future update :) edit: With this update I have an issue with my USB harddisk not going into powersaving mode anymore (it keeps spinning forever), unless I physically disconnect...

    volume problems

Confirming with a QWERTZ (German layout) mini bluetooth keyboard sans air mouse functionality. Rarely, maybe once every two or three hours of playtime in Kodi on Android, the volume goes down one step from maximum volume.

    Openelec Blank screen

I have the same issue and support said it may be a HDMI detection issue on the TV side. For me, switching the TV off and on again is sufficient as a fix.

DroidBOX® are happy to announce an OTA Updates for our T8 Mini model!

Aaaaand thanks :) I had time to look at my T8 Mini again and got an 1.0.4 update. It finally allows me to mount ext4 formatted drives using USB OTG Helper. Native OTG support would be nice to have though. The first-run wizard in Android seems machine-translated when you select German. In case...

    Mini setup

Another dyed-in-the-wool Linux guy here. There is a Kodi addon named „Backup“ for scheduled/manual configuration backups. You could try doing a backup to the cloud or a USB drive from OpenELEC and restoring it on another Kodi installation. That way you would have them synced. Didn’t try that yet...

Some quirks and suggestions (and Linux filesystem support)

Tinkered a bit more and did another factory reset. One issue I already noticed earlier is that OpenELEC is not completely reset. For example it keeps the language setting (German in my case) and parts of the regional settings after the reset. The first-run wizard is in German too. Videos still...
