Basic remote

I have 2 boxes of my own.work great.bought one for my father today,box on screen remote does nothing,no lights on remote,returned for new remote,this one lights up when pushed but does nothing.brought to my house where my 3 remotes work on all boxes,,dad's new remote just blinks and does nothing,,,,,plz any help,

Can you let us know which Android device you're attempting to control, and whether the (now replaced) infrared/basic remote control came with this device, or was purchased on its own.
