I'll combine these apps together.
You are probably aware of Chrome and Firefox already because of their popularity on PCs.

So why do some people install a browser when there is one built into Android itself?

  • Desktop version of sites accessible (though this has been rememdied with later versions of Android's default browser).
  • Flash playable (again there are workarounds, but some people feel that Dolphin with a modified APK is the best combination). This means you can sometimes watch videos when XBMC has no specific add-on for your preferred viewing material.
  • Speed - not all alternatives are faster than the default browser, and it will depend on the type of sites you visit.
  • Syncing open tabs and/or bookmarks from other devices - if you want a seemless transition from your PC or mobile device to your DroidBOX device, it is worth looking into these other browsers.
Chrome

Dolphin

Firefox

Opera

It is also worth checking out the mobile versions - Opera Mini and Dolphin Mini. These apps have less bells and whistles, and won't necessarily display media heavy sites well, but if speed is of the utmost importance to you, it is worth checking whether the difference in speed is worth the sacrifice of some features.

In short, if you have the time, download them all. Think of a few different sites you'd like to regularly visit on your DroidBOX device, and visit them all in each browser. You should be able to whittle it down to just one or two browsers that accomplish the tasks you set them.
