I'd go with CAT5e specification (or better) meeting lead if buying a new one, that way you'll be able to use it in the future with any 1Gbit Ethernet devices. http://www.xmultiple.com/xwebsite-forum24.htm has some stats on the differences between the specifications.

I think the adapter is auto-sensing, so it shouldn't matter if it is a patch cable or crossover.

In short, any decent quality lead should be fine. If you have two options, one with CAT5 written, the other CAT5e, go for the CAT5e.

Any other forum members have an opinion on this one?
