the remote control that came with the droid box has not survived fairly normal use over 6 months and most of the buttons hardly work unless you press them REALLY hard.
can I pair the droid box with my TV remote?

I have the same problem. Most of the buttons (like OK ir down) don't work unless you press them REALLY hard so I am also interested in pairing a new remote.
kazac, have you find any remote suitable for xbmc? I mean with all the buttons you need?

@kazac - It will depend entirely on your TV remote. If it has a learning function, then you could map the original infra-red remote's functions across.
@rangerGR - Assuming you mean hardware, have you seen the 2.4GHz remote controls we sell?

VIP Remote - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DroidBOX-..._Remote_Controls_Pointers&hash=item3f26928e41 - This is the one I use the most at home, as you can teach it infrared codes from other remotes, saves having multiple remotes out just to turn the TV on, change channels etc.
Mele F10 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Keyboard-Remote-Control-Center/dp/B009YPQ7PO/ - This comes a close second for me, though another retailer is listed on Amazon, as they a pound or two cheaper for now

The following models I haven't used at all, but are worth a quick look

Rii i25 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rii-Wireless-Multifunction-keboard-learning/dp/B00INITM1E
i8 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/DroidBOX-Wireless-Keyboard-Raspberry-compatible-Black/dp/B00N67YHSK
RC 12 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/DroidBOX-Keyboard-Wireless-suitable-Rikomagic-Black/dp/B00JMEJ1XM/

Depending on the model of DroidBOX you have (X7, Q7 and M6) , this infrared remote control might be a suitable replacement - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Android-I..._Remote_Controls_Pointers&hash=item2ed435bf9c

For what it's worth, the infrared remote controls for my devices at home get daily use (for the last 9 months) by a 2 and 5 year old (I don't trust them with the "deluxe" models :) ), and are bearing up well so far. I do tend to insist they wash their hands before touching my techy toys.

I prefer a simple IR remote, not a wifi one. I already use my phone for advance control of xbmc (galery, search etc), there are plenty of apps for this and it's easier than a using remote control.
So I just want a remote similar to the one I got with my iMX6 (MCE), maybe something like the one in your last link, but I don't think it will work with my linux box.

@barry Yes, assuming you have a spare USB socket still, that control will work. You're more of a touchpad man, rather than waving your arm in the air? :)

@rangerGR Fair enough. I'm checking with the sales guys about iMX6 infrared remote controls now (I work in technical support, so don't know right now).
