I'm more of an Xbox fan when it comes to consoles/controllers, otherwise I'd be able to test for you.

I do remember that in the old version of this forum we had some discussion regarding gaming controllers, which worked and which didn't.

The PS3 controller, I'm assuming it is wireless? If so, does it use bluetooth, 2.4GHz or something proprietary?

Your X7 - when was it purchased (approximately) and if you look on the bottom of the device, does it mention something like AC8350, EKB311, BT351 etc etc?

If anyone has success, it would be worth reporting it in this thread - USB devices

The remote control server and client app is more for general control of your DroidBOX than game playing.
I've not yet tried it, but DroidMote is supposed to be good. It costs £1.61, but Google themselves offer a refund for up to two hours after a purchase, and if you contact the author directly about a refund (should it not work properly) he seems to be open to the possibility.
Before committing, have a read through of these pages:

Hi, Been a while since I was on here - I was in the middle of several discussions when the site went down and I kind of gave up on my droidbox at the same time. Spotify is about the only thing I use it for now.
Glad you got the site up again though but shame previous discussions were lost.

I was discussing game controllers before but gave up when forums went down.
My PS3 just gave up the ghost after xmas and I've had another bash at trying to get a game controller working but no joy.
I've had multiple attempts but all failed :
- First PS3 controller - the lack of bluetooth is the main problem here. I'm still kind of annoyed that this was sold having Bluetooth when it didn't have it as I had intended to pair bluetooth keyboards, controllers etc and wouldn't have bought it if I had known. Is this ever going to be addressed? I am amazed that the device is still advertised as having bluetooth - how is this legal?
- I also tried a xbox for windows controller with dongle which seemed to be a goer but never got that to work but actually I think I have a problem that the wireless dongle which doesn't work as I can't get it to respond on a laptop either. Odd as worked fine last time I tried it on PC but been a while and maybe got damaged in a house move. So can't confirm that works either. I need to get another dongle replacement to try but feels like more good money after bad....
- I have just tried a PS2 controller with PS2-USB adaptor that I had for PS3 ages ago. Not sure if I should be using this in USB OTG or plain USB sockets? Have some intermittent success in both with it receiving some of the left pad buttons when in analog mode. Still I tried several games including dead trigger which I've been told has game controller support and couldn't get it working. It has a feature to remap controls in the game but couldn't get this work at all.
I'd have thought PS2 controller on a USB adaptor cable should be as simple as it gets - does anyone know if this works? Know of a game that supports the game controller that I can test with ? One of the things here is that I couldn't find any button which acts as the default for 'ok' on any game. Sadly even attempting to use the rkcontroller game pad mode to test the game itself just crashes the app.

On a general note, I was having problems here though getting several games to work. Quite a few of them crash the droidbox which made for frustrating testing and I'm not sure if I've been in a half crashed state when trying to use this on dead trigger.
I'm not sure also if this box needs an android update? There are a lot of play store apps don't work out of the box. (I took the 12/12 update originally as needed that to get my device to work out of the box). Feels like a lot of the games crash on this box and maybe there's some firmware needed. Also it feels like early PC gaming again in that none of the games have standards on controls etc and different device specs probably means there's a lot of games that don't work so hard to get working combos.
Really frustrating process tbh. Although I am happy to test and report results back if anyone has any ideas / suggestions.
Thanks,
Mark

Mar, it is a real shame all the old content was lost, as I know a lot of us spent a fair amount of time researching and writing out posts. A backup system for the database is now in place, rather than just the files themselves.

The X7s come in a range of slight variations. If you ever look for X7 firmwares online, you'll see there are at least five (six?) slightly different models. We advertised it as having bluetooth, as we'd been told by the factory that this was the case. Once they arrived and customers tried accessing bluetooth, it became apparent that that specific hardware revision didn't have the necessary silicon in place.

The current adverts that mention bluetooth are accurate as we've switched to a different hardware version, and tried to make sure that the factories understand that last minute substitutions for previous SoCs (System on a Chip) used need to take into account missing features. I've tried a few bluetooth dongles with an X7 I have that has no internal bluetooth hardware, but it looks like the firmware doesn't have the required files/drivers for external BT dongles to work.

The Xbox 360 wireless controller adapter for Windows does work in general - see http://www.droidboxforums.com/posts/188 - assuming it has the same PID/VID.

Use the normal USB sockets, OTG can be used with an adaptor, but we mainly see it in use for firmware flashes (on RockChip based devices at least, like the Q7, X7 series, V9 etc) when connected to a PC. OTG USB sockets on tablets/phones are normally the only type of USB sockets available, which is why you'll sometimes see mention of OTG capabilities/requirements in discussions of Android hardware compatibility.
I've not got any PS related hardware to test my devices with, hopefully fellow customers will be able to chip in with their findings.

If you're not sure whether you've got serious issues with your current Android installation, I'd try a factory reset via the Android Recovery Menu, see https://droidbox.co.uk/blog/how-to-access-your-droidboxs-recovery-menu/ for the procedure. If that doesn't help, e-mail me ( [email protected] ) with the info mentioned here - http://www.droidboxforums.com/threads/what-to-include-if-you-need-to-e-mail-us.364/ - as well as what the bottom of your X7 states (look for model names like B351_BT (and variations), AC8350, Q7 (don't blame us, the factory put that one there), EKB311 and EKB311B . From that info, we can check which firmware is the latest for your type of X7.

Re lots of apps not working out of the box, it may well be that there are compulsory updates for the applications, created since the firmware was cooked up. If the apps come from the Play Store, make sure you've enabled auto-updates - see https://droidbox.co.uk/blog/googles-play-store-signing-in-and-auto-updates/ for the procedure.
