as far as the speaker goes, it's sorted, appears the speaker was at fault. Droidbox support (I contacted via email) have been brilliant in responding, so thanks to them, and all here for the replies. With regards to the rooting issue and Sky Go, looks like this is an issue that wont be fixed...

Hi All, not long had my Droidbox T8-S Plus and generally happy with it's performance. I always use the OpenElec version of Kodi on the droidbox and found it to work well....apart from now. Were were attempting to watch Hell's Kitchen US, a popular show that my previous box never had issues...
