Downloading through Exodus addon not showing on external hard drives

I've enabled downloading in my Exodus addon and pointed the download path to x2 separate hard drives (x1 32gb usb stick & x1 250gb portable hard drive). Even though the download appears to finish to 100% neither through kodi or es file explorer do the files actually appear once downloaded on either hard drive.

I've since pointed the download path to the internal 32gb drive and it works fine every time, any ideas? Ideally don't want to be filling the internal drive up and it won't last me 5 minutes either.

Hello Adam,

First format your Hard drive and then try again and see if that works and if that doesn't work then you can download files on internal main memory and then move those downloaded files from internal memory to external memory(Hard drive) through Es file Explorer that will free up the internal memory.
Before transferring files from internal main memory to external memory make sure that you have turned on Root Explorer in Es file Explorer which you can find under Tools.

Thanks for the reply, I've since done some research and it appears Android Lollipop could be the issue here.

Apparently in Lollipop it appears apps now need permission for write access to write to external drives.

Any idea on how to give Kodi the permissions to write to external drives?

Can you try turning ON the Show Hidden Files option in the Es File Explorer app and then search for files that you have downloaded on external storage and see if that shows up your files.

Thanks for the info but this just appears to show how to install Kodi to an external storage device which is not quite what I'm trying to do.

Thanks but hidden files are being shown, I'm almost certain that it's just Kodi not having write permissions to the external drive.

@AdamF I am having the same issue. Was you able to get this resolved? Kodi (Android Side) does not have write access to folders on drive.

Not ignoring the thread, was speaking with a customer recently who found a solution, testing to see if stable. For those that want to experiment ahead of any conclusion from my end, SambaDroid from the PlayStore was involved. My initial idea was to set SambaDroid to share the drive over the network, and then set the path for downloads via //sambadroid/share name. It appeared that this worked in theory, but large files had issues. The customer had followed these steps, then discovered that using the network share wasn't necessary. Will post back after testing.

Preliminary testing:
T8... didn't actually need to set the storage device (went with SD card in end) in sambadroid as a specific share, just installing Sambadroid, starting it, closing was enough, survived a reboot, didn't require manual starting of Sambadroid, nor was it running as a back service (didn't set in options to auto start).
T8-S Plus will try and check tonight or tomorrow morning.

Agreed on one simple solution being to download then copy and paste in a file management app, but hoping to find a solution for those prefer to click and forget.

T8-S Plus: installed Sambadroid, opened, didn't click stop, just rebooted, dbmc, download to sd card: download to usb device:
100% done on usb didn't show in exodus download menu, will check via es file explorer once the sd card download (an HD file so longer) reports as completed in kodi.

PS To the customer who informed me that network sharing wasn't necessary, I've lost your details after a BSOD on this PC, hat tip is due your way, just not sure right now on the correct direction!

You need to set permissions on the folders created on the HD. The drive is formatted under OpenElec and that user has root permissions, but android does not.

I logged into the box from my PC using putty to do this, but then I found there is a terminal app you can load onto the box from the Play Store, then you can do it locally as it were.

If you have a folder called videos on the HD, in my case this is sda1 on my T8-s.
From memory the command is:
chmod 777 /sda1/videos

This gives all users full read/write permissions.

Chmod 777 / storage/udisk0/Movies gives me operation not permitted. ..damn tricky stuff here touchy too. I can cd to folder for movies OK but when I do a chmod 777 to that folder it says no such file or folder

I had same problem after installing a new hard drive but with Phoenix downloads. I saw a reply from someone (can't find it now sorry to whoever wrote it) who suggested uninstalling the add on then powering off the box before reinstalling. This has worked for me. I'm guessing the addon gets itself disk write permission when it installs but who knows. Main thing is it worked for me

Try this from the T8-S Thread. Install SDFIX and ES File Explorer from Play Store. Run SDFIX. In file explorer select the Root Explorer slider (on the left) and then click on the words Root Explorer, a pop-up box allows you to select "Mount R/W", then a second pop-up box allows you to select RW for the devices requiring RW access. You should then be able to make backups and downloads to the selected internal HDD and external drives. Worked for me on my T8-S Plus.

Please see https://droidboxforums.com/threads/t8-s-plus-write-to-storage-devices-fix-november-2016.7832/ for details of a fix for writing to storage devices in apps that don't request SuperSU/root permissions.
SDFix should not be used on devices with recent firmware installed, however the fix from that thread should negate the need for the SDFix app.

Ok think ive figured it...come out of kodi, go to android box settings,on preferences click more settings,then on device click storage an usb,then click internal storage,scroll down an click explore,then click download...an voila the files i downloaded that were supposed to go to my external usb stick are there
