The ota update is for the t8s plus not the t8s.
But you can still update Kodi on the android side to 16. Go to the how - to page and grab dbmc 16. Alternatively you can get unbadged vanilla Kodi 16 from Google play. You will probably need to reinstall your Addons. Note this is for android only not openelec.

Well as ive said above you can get that for the android side right now from the droidbox how-to page (dbmc version) or from google play (official kodi) without waiting for an ota update.

My T8 is running sweet no need to update here. Ive heard lots of boxes freezing so ask yourself is it worth the update.

The update has been released only for T8-S PLUS not for T8 or T8-S devices.
If you wish to install DBMC 16 on your device then you can follow the below link to know how to update DBMC:
https://droidbox.co.uk/blog/droidbox-media-centre-16-jarvis-based-on-kodi/

Also you can login into Google PlayStore and can install Kodi 16(Jarvis) on your device.

i have installed DBMC 16 but the i loose the option to start kodi with the xbmc button on home menu i would prefer the update so i don't have to run kodi from a favourite shortcut
