Video playback issues

I have an old iMX6 box which is no longer playing any video but I get sound. This is happening when using XBMC and android apps such as mobdro and showbox. Any ideas on what might be the problem?

If you had only experienced this within XBMC itself, I'd assume you had updated to the Gotham build if XBMC. However, if other applications are behaving the same way, this can't be the issue. A factory reset would put your device back to the state it originally arrived in when you ordered it, but it seems a little heavy handed without knowing more of the background to this case.
